What do Paul and Coffey do with Mr. Jingles after Percy steps on it?

Coffey asks Paul to give him the mouse. Gingerly, Paul hands it to Coffey through the bars, feeling the splintered bones and shattered body. Coffey holds the mouse limp in his palm with the tail hanging. Coffey covers his right hand with his left, creating a type of cup in which the mouse lays. Coffey lifts his hands toward his face, spreading the fingers of the right, creating spaces like those between prison bars. Coffey puts his mouth between two of his fingers, and then inhales sharply. When he raises his face, he looks sick. Coffey coughs up a cloud of black insects. The “bugs” turn white and disappear. Coffey bends down and puts the mouse on the floor, and it runs to Delacroix’s cell.
