Who is Hotchkiss from The Great and Secret Show: The First Book of the Art and what is their importance?

Hotchkiss is Carolyn's father. He remained in the town of Palomo Grove after his daughter's death, hoping to get answers about what happened to her. Hotchkiss is later killed by Kissoon and his Lix while trying to discover the meaning of Trinity.
