Many experts have espoused the fact that Jay Gatsby and a younger Ben Franklin have many parallels. One example that is often given is that Jay Gatsby is a self-made man, rising from rags to riches. Franklin, himself did just this. Both characters tend to be obsessive when it comes to routine and schedule. In chapter IX of Gatsby the similarities are most striking. Gatsby's schedule and Franklin's General Resolves in this chapter are nearly identical.
