What happens in Chapter 8 in The Great Gatsby?

Chapter Eight revolves around Gatsby's wait for Daisy, something that will never happen. Nick begs him to leave town for awhile, but Gatsby refuses, as he has no idea that Tom placed responsibility for the accident on his shoulders. It is in this chapter that George Wilson shoots Gatsby, and then goes onto kill himself.
