What metaphors are used in The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol?

Gogol links gastronomy with aesthetics by using alimentary metaphors to describe literature. It is not surprising, therefore, to find in his play that the act of eating— both as manger and as goûter—becomes paradigmatic of the act of writing literature.
