How does the author use foreshadowing in The Glass Castle?

I think there is a lot of foreshadowing in the fact that the Walls parents are going through dumpsters in New York City. This happens at the beginning of the book. Their extreme poverty foreshadows the memories of Jeannette's poverty stricken childhood.
