Jonas sees his community differently than he has before. Jonas's sense of perception isolates him from the rest of the community. Jonas begins to see in color but, more importantly, he sees the cracks and fissures in his society. Jonas is able to cast a critical eye upon the hyper conformity and superficiality the Elders force upon everyone. Once Jonas begins training for Giver/receiver, his isolation becomes more intense. Jonas learns that his new role basically isolated him from others. He is left to his own. He is supported well in terms of comfort, food...He also has access to books and ideas forbidden to others. He, however, remains alone with thoughts and emotions that carry a heavy burden.
