Who is Peter Drouilliard from The Frontiersmen: A Narrative and what is their importance?

Drouilliard saves Simon from execution by the Indians, only to arrest him on behalf of the British. The two men become friends and Drouilliard even assists Simon in his escape from the British, which leads to his own arrest.
