Why does the character Celie in "The Color Purple" remind a student about her Uncle Joe?

The character Celie reminds a student of her Uncle Joe because the student was raped by this uncle. Just as Celie is violated, tormented, and humiliated, so was this student. However just as Celie has courage, this student does too. Knowing that she has courage helps the student survive.
