Because of the Read-a-Thon for Tolerance, why is Zlata invited to speak to the class?

Gruwell wants Zlata to speak to the class to put a face on the genocide in Bosnia. Gruwell startes the project as a ploy to get the student to write letters, however the students take her seriously.
