One key element of the author's exploration/condemnation of Christianity in this section is the author's description of how he broke free of his addiction, how he discovered and came to love a truth other than what he has come to understand as his reality. There are two components to this truth. One is the hypocrisy of other church leaders. Yet it is also his own spirit of determination to not be what those around them, particularly his father, believe him to be.
