By using a language that the Hessians do not understand, does the Corporal really give them a chance to save their lives when he tells them to surrender?

The Corporal is more concerned with killing than capturing prisoners. Using a language the Hessians can't understand makes him look sympathetic in front of the men, while guaranteeing that the Hessians will assume the Americans are trying to kill them and will thus be killed themselves.
