Where does Augustus go prior to the boarding of the plane in Chapter 10? Why?

Augustus goes to get breakfast while Hazel and her mom wait at the gate. When they board the plane, Augustus admits to being late to the gate because he didn't want everyone staring at them for boarding the plane early.
