Why does The Palmer stop Guyon from protecting Pyrochles from Occasion?

Guyon cannot protect Pyrochles from his own foolishness. The Palmer is trying to teach Guyon the power of moderation and Pyrochles is a great example of the trouble of not being level-headed and moderate.
