When he sees the dead woman and the other woman alive, he says that a good solution would be to cut the living woman in half and divide the parts. When Saglier agrees to this, but the other knight refuses, Artegall knows that the knight loves the woman and allows them to go free. As punishment for his deception and cruelty, Artegall makes Saglier wear the head of the dead woman around his neck for a year.
