Who is Ken Kesey (Chief) from The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test and what is their importance?

Ken Kesey looks like the all American young man. He is a gifted writer who earns his way into Stanford University. He is athletic and comes from a solidly middle class upbringing. This all changed when he uses LSD. His drug use drives the narrative for much of the story.
