Thomas is a Jesuit priest, a scholar, and a student of past civilizations. He created the Beowulf Circle to travel the world and investigate the possibility that the hadals have a central leader who is the role model for myth and legends about the devil. In the end, we learn that Thomas is the devil the Beowulf Circle was searching for.
