After the debris flow nightmare the Genofile family goes through, why does Bob Genofile decide to rebuild on the same property?

Even though the Genofile family experiences a frightening ordeal when a debris flow fills their house with mud, water, and rocks, Bob Genofile decides to rebuild their home on the same property. He had built the first house, and the walls held up in the flow. He figures the rebuilt house will also hold up, and he builds it like a fort. Later, the rebuilt house wins an award for good maintenance.
