In the epilogue when James, Ruth, & Kathy go to David's Jewish wedding in the synagogue.

I'm not sure about joy. I think she is at peace walking into a synagogue. Ruth still acknowledges Judaism as a significant part of her past, and is wise enough now to have come to terms with it.
