What does the soldier do in "The Bitch"?

"The Bitch" describes a soldier who goes to his mistress' house when she isn't there and takes the dog for a walk. The dog leads him to a house where the dogs is obviously accustomed to visiting and the soldier takes the dog with him when he leaves.
