What does Colette discuss in "The Hand"?

In "The Hand," Colette discusses two newlyweds and the woman admires the man as he sleeps. When she sees his hand, he becomes horrified and thinks that it is grotesque and wants to get away. In the morning, the hand is still horrible, but she decides to deal with it.
