When Edward and Peter discuss Peter's love for Celia, and the way she became indifferent to him, avoiding him and refusing to spend time with him, Edward gives Peter a pat on the back for avoiding a catastrophe. Edward conveys his belief that love is like a fever, something that infects a person and makes him/ her behave irrationally.
