Actually the The Chocolate War is not so much about chocolate. Chocolate plays a part in that it is a fundraiser for the school but it supports a much wider stratification of high school society. The war is not over chocolates rather than a dystopian-like conflict between Jerry and a minority of students against Brother Leon who controls a much larger body of students. There is a secret police (vigils) that work to enforce the ideology student elite in power.
