What is the theme in The Chamber by John Grisham?

One major theme in the novel, The Chamber, is that of family. Throughout the novel, we become aware of how the actions of one man can alienate and destroy a family unit. Sam's children moved away, changed their names, and kept their family history a secret. Even Sam kept secrets to protect the family.
