The Center of the Story

What comment does the story make about paring a story down to the essentials, and what does this have to do with Davis's own style?

The woman decides to edit several uninteresting things from her story. She reasons that the more a writer takes out of a story, the more that everything that is left will be central to the story. Since Davis's story itself is very short, this could reasonably be assumed to be one of the principles Davis writes by.
