How does the author use foreshadowing in The Centaur?

The centaur's vision of sky and sea foreshadows his ultimate vision. Before falling, he stands on a mountain from which he can see the sea. As he later lies dying, the man-half looks up at the sky, which appears to be an "ever deepening sea overhead, a sea with tiny, motionless clouds that were islands, and immortal life."
