Why did Lord Canterville give Mr.Otis all details about Canterville Castle being haunted?

Lord Canterville was too honorable to leave without informing Mr. Otis of the true reasons they were leaving their ancestral home. He did the right thing, even if Mr. Otis was skeptical.... he'd been made aware.
