The Cage by Ruth Minsky Sender is a true account of the struggles and hardships of being a Jew during the Holocaust. Riva Minska is talking with her daughter, Nancy, in 1985. During the conversation, her mind slips back to 1939, when she was a 13-year-old girl living in Poland. The actions of German soldiers, lack of food, and sickness were just a few of the reasons her family quickly diminished. Riva relied on mental toughness, poetry, and friends to survive the concentration camps and recount such a chilling time.
