What does Medal represent?

The medal is a symbol of a mistake. At the award ceremony, Andrew removes that medal from its pouch to show Chris and Donna what it looks like. It appears that Andrew had touched the clothes he was wearing when he killed Jack because he had Jack’s DNA on his hands that transferred to the medal.
