The Bullet That Missed demonstrates the value of friends as both Elizabeth and Bethany make decisions that will save their friends. Additionally, Viktor decides that having friends is more valuable than having money.

Even though Bethany’s investigation into the tax fraud scam could skyrocket her career as a journalist, Bethany chooses to drop the case and disappear to save her friend, Mike. Years after Bethany’s “death” she still has the bullet that was sent to her as a threat. The bullet has a name scratched into it: “And the name is what had finally made her mind up. Because the name scratched into the bullet was not ‘Bethany Waites’ … The name was ‘Mike Waghorn.’” (323). Bethany chooses to save her friend’s life over her career.
