Who is The Steiner Family from The Book Thief and what is their importance?

Rudy is the main character from the Steiner family. He is a resolute and kind boy who constantly seeks the affections of Liesel. Rudy has brothers and sisters but they are very minor character. Alex is Rudy's father. He does not agree with Nazi ideology but is forced to join the army to keep his family safe.
