Who is Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief and what is their importance?

Liesel is the protagonist of the story. She is nine years old when Death, our narrator, introduces us to her. She is traumatized by the death of her brother on their way to live with the Hubermanns. Books and the written word move Liesel. Although she cannot read at the beginning of the story, she turns into both an artist and an author. She steals anything she can read because she loves books so much.
