What does seven sided die mean?

Death uses the seven-sided die as a metaphor. There's no such thing as a seven-sided die and to gamble with one would mean you're gambling on something impossible to win. Each of the chapters in this section depicts a die at the beginning of the story; seven stories, seven gambles, and seven die.
