Who is Monsieur Gavard and what impact does he have on the lives of Florent and Quenu?

Florent gets into the habit of buying chicken at the rotisserie on those nights when he is not in the mood to cook. The rotisserie is owned by Monsieur Gavard. Gavard soon takes an interest in Florent and the three become friends. A short while later, Quenu discovers he has a love of food and cooking and the young man soon begins spending more and more time at Monsieur Gavard's rotisserie. Before long, Quenu is in the employ of Monsieur Gavard.
