While having tea at Selwyn's, Charlie comments that Dolly is quite handy in the kitchen. Selwyn relates that Tolstoy told him that if grown men and women live simply, and accomplish tasks as the need arises, the children will quickly seek to share them. Charlie then asks Selwyn if he thinks Nellie lived simply, but receives no reply.
