Who is Mr. Poe in The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket?

Mr. Poe is the banker and family friend responsible for the Beaudelaire estate after the children's parent's death. Mr. Poe wasn't the best choice as executor of the estate, and his inaction, rather than actions, often place the children in a precarious position.
