Egri focuses on two of Aristotle's theories in this book. One is his idea that in a story, character is secondary to action. Action, simply, precedes in importance anything about a character. The second is the famous and widely-taught, "Every story must have a beginning, a middle, and an end." Egri opposes both of these theories.
