Naj represents the success that Mazna and Mimi were looking for. Naj discovered her talent as a child and was able to embrace that career without restrictions or worry. She is able to make a name for herself when others in her family could not. However, she also shows the struggles that gay people like her face, especially when they worry about alienation from their own families. Naj feels disconnected from her family and thinks that staying in Beirut is the only way to address it. However, when she accepts herself and looks toward her future, her return to America aligns with Mazna’s own wishes to be a star and Naj becomes what Mazna always wished she could be.
