Mazna’s story shows how dangerous resentment is and how one can ruin their life if they are unable to overcome it.
First, it is important to understand why Mazna resents Idris as much as she does. Early on, she feels that their marriage is entirely his fault and that she never wanted to be with him. This is revealed by the narrator when they say, “Grief will pack your bag, quit your job, buy a white dress. It will make you say yes” (212). Mazna has no love for Idris and frequently feels that he is living his best life while she is left in her home. This becomes even more of an issue when Idris admits that he ruined her chances at being in Sam’s film. Mazna feels that he killed her dream and that everything is his fault. Over time, she builds up more and more anger toward him that it begins to affect her everyday life and self-confidence.
