The family home represents their privilege, especially when compared to others in Beirut. It is ornate and filled with wealth from Idris’s parents. They even have Merry to help around the house as a personal maid. However, it also stands for Idris’s feelings of guilt, especially around Zakaria’s death. He feels responsible for everything bad that happened in that house and tries to sell it to absolve himself. When he decides to keep the home, Idris accepts his mistakes as well as the family’s privilege to allow them all to move on as better people.
