Beirut exemplifies the problems with war and extended conflict. Throughout the novel, the state of Beirut is addressed by the various characters, even though most of them are not directly affected by it. There is a constant feeling of unrest throughout the country and the main characters have to realize that there is more to the country's problems than the things they face themselves. This is also why the author highlights that a peace treaty has been reached by the end of the novel. Just like the family, the country finally gets a chance to move on.
