Mrs. Coulter from The Amber Spyglass is Lyra's mother. Lyra only discovers that in the first book as her mother has not been in her life up until that point. She is a servant of the Church, but seems to act outside of their pervue in many instances. Though it can't be said that she's overly emotional or loving toward her daughter, she does dismantle a bomb that is specifically intended for Lyra. She seems to have a distain for the Church and yet finds herself unable to dissociate herself from them.
