Rabbits are a symbol of a malignant innocence. In Violence and Violet, the rabbits are the first indication of the corruption of innocence, watching Violence’s carnage with interest. Their presence also indicates Birchie’s dementia, a dementia that is returning her to an innocent, child-like state.
