How does Fritz display a caring nature in the novel, The Alaskan Laundry?

Fritz picks Tara up from the ferry, gives her something to eat on her first night there, puts up with her attitude, and invites her to his house for holiday gatherings. He also does all he can do to help her when her boat sinks. He is one of the new friends she makes as she works through her issues.
