Who is Lewis’s second-in-command in the novel, The Aftermath?

Captain Barker is Lewis’s trusted second-in-command. He is a cheery man and does a good job holding fort for Lewis while he is in Heligoland. He is hardworking, has a light touch at work, and is “neither out for petty gain nor escaping failure in another realm” (74).
