Tom Sawyer is a boy of about ten who is intelligehtn, mischevious, as well as adventurous. Whiel he is a born leader, he lacks the maturity to 'look before he leaps' and it often lands him and his friends in trouble. Jim doesn't figure as prominently in this book as he does in Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but he is the slave of the Widow Douglas.
