Helen Stone is the stepdaughter of Dr. Roylott, who holds an inheritance from her mother's death. Dr. Roylott kills Helen's sister, Julia, and he aims to do the same thing to Helen to prevent her marriage and the loss of her inheritance before Holmes and Watson save her.
