Rosario has three main complaints about the expectations for gauchos at the estancia. He dislikes how regimented their lives are, and he dislikes the fact that they are assigned tasks that he sees as women's work. He has nothing but contempt for their work as farmers; to Rosario, the correct use of the land is for cattle ranching, and he sees agriculture as a battle against nature.
