In "I Was Burning My Bridges," who is Raúl, and what happens to him?

Raúl is a half-Indian orphaned gaucho who is China Iron's first love. After El Negro marries her off to Martín Fierro, Martín suspects that their first child may be Raúl's son, and Raúl is killed; China Iron assumes that it was Martín who killed him.
