How is China Iron finally freed from her husband and family?

China Iron's husband Martín Fierro is conscripted into the army and sent to the front to fight Indians. On the pretense that she is going off to find him, she gets a neighbor couple to take care of her two sons and leaves the settlement in Liz's wagon.
